Contributing to enhance Cameroon civil transparency, accountability, legitimacy and participation in national development.
Development and promotion of adherence to the Cameroon Civil Society Code of Ethics.
It is clear that Civil Society organizations (CSOs) have become key players in the democracy movement, demanding high standards of transparency and accountability from the government of Cameroon. Their recent increase in influence has also raised the issues of transparency, legitimacy, accountability, and management practices within themselves and towards their constituencies. How can Civil Society advocate for greater accountability and access to resources, when their own credibility is questioned? AGGEM’s team members have been at the forefront of the development of the Code of Ethics for Cameroon Civil Society with other civil society Organisations under the framework of the umbrella network of NGOs (North West Association of Development Organisations – NWADO). The Code of Ethics is a set of norms, principles and values to standardise the conduct, action and behaviour of CSOs in Cameroon.
It is intended amongst other things, to improve partnership between the Government and several overseas development partners and CSOs by defining accepted and acceptable behaviour, help to promote high standards of practice as well as provide a benchmark for CSOs to use for self-evaluation. AGGEM is charged with promoting adherence to this code and is currently developing a Quality Assurance Mechanism to enhance its implementation by gathering experiences where institutions and organisations have succeeded to development and enforce the respect of Codes the case of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID).
